Introduction – Welcome to my Blog

Since 1992 I have focused my business on helping clients transition to a worry free retirement lifestyle with conservative growth strategies and reliable income portfolios.  Low-fee, income generating portfolios incorporating ETFs, closed-end funds acquired at significant discounts to Net Asset Value (with upcoming redemption dates at NAV) and hybrid securities such as convertible debentures have been a major part of client portfolios for many years – and are incorporated into my discretionary portfolio strategies: Diversified Income Portfolio and Core ETF Portfolio which I have been managing since March of 2008 and February of 2009 respectively.   Additionally I have a growing interest in Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) attracted by both the opportunity to help clients generate above average returns with below average volatility and to meet their SRI objectives at the same time (multiple research studies have shown that this is now possible) – which is also important to me personally.   On this note I will be launching a new discretionary mandate shortly: SRI Leaders Core Income and Growth Portfolio which will incorporate both low-fee ETFs and best in-class 3rd party SRI F-Class funds.
 

Complete investment strategies and portfolios often incorporate top ranked 3rd party investment managers along with direct investments such as GICs and individual securities depending on client objectives.  Fees charged include Investment Policy Statements and Financial Planning utilizing in-house expertise.   
 

Approximately 15% of my time is focused on “wealth creation” as opposed to “wealth preservation”– which for me entails attempting to identify and profit from investments made in individual securities that are expected to generate outsized returns.   Research and extensive due diligence are an important part of all securities held in discretionary portfolio and all recommendations made to clients.
 

There are multiple changes taking place in the Canadian investment business – most of them positive for investors.  In my business I have the capacity to increase the number of clients that I am directly work with by approximately 20-25 per year for the next few years.  With over 24 years of experience in the business (now 48 years of age) I am in a somewhat unique position in that I am planning on working for another 15 to 20 years as an Investment Advisor and Portfolio Manager - as I truly enjoy what I do.    Many of the strategies and solutions that my team and I employ are targeted at investors with $1,000,000+ portfolios.  To get things started though a minimum of investment of $150,000 is required.   Currently we are working with clients located in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario – but may add additional jurisdictions in the future depending on demand. 
 

Going forward in this Blog I am planning on discussing the topics mentioned above along with any other topics that I think would be relevant to my clients.  I am also open to suggestions!
